Students interested in graduate studies (MSc or PhD) should contact Dr. Kerton or Dr. Kozak directly. Funding is available for suitably qualified applicants*** but please note we cannot accept all students who apply. Students need to have studied to degree level in Chemistry.
Details on application procedures and requirements can be found through the following links: Graduate Studies in Chemistry and the School of Graduate Studies
NOTE: Canadian students should apply by March 1 to be considered for Fall (September). International students who will require a study permit should apply by February 1.
*** NSERC-funded graduate students receive supplements (additional scholarships) from the University. For example, Dean’s Doctoral Award ($5000 per year for 4 years for outstanding incoming PhD candidates)
Undergraduate students – if you are interested in working in the group for the summer (NSERC USRA, SWASP or other positions), please e-mail Dr. Kozak or Dr. Kerton as early as possible to express your interest and discuss opportunities. Potential 490 (honours) projects will be listed on the department’s website in due course. Feel free to talk to past or current students who have worked in the Green Chemistry & Catalysis Group about their experiences.

Postdoctoral Fellows: Currently, we do not have funding in our grants for stipends. However, we are happy to support those researchers who have their own funding (for examples see below) e.g. Marie Curie outgoing fellowships.
Funding Opportunity for Qualified Postdocs:
- Canadian (and Canadian Permanent Resident) PhD-holders (or those soon to be qualified) are encouraged to apply for NSERC PDFs.
- Europeans: we are able to host you as part of an outgoing Marie Curie fellowship
- PhD-holders from the following 12 countries can apply for a one-year PDRF funded by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada; Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Republic of Korea, Russia, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. These Fellowships are valued at $36,500 CDN (taxable). (It might be possible to supplement these awards if applicants are successful). The full program description including eligibility requirements and application information can be found on the Government of Canada’s International Scholarships website at www.scholarships.gc.ca.

After graduate studies at MUN: Some of you will want to continue in academic research and there are a number of options available to you. Dr. Kerton and Dr. Kozak are happy to discuss these with you as you begin writing your thesis. For example, we may know of professors in Canada and around the world who have funding available and are looking for a PDRA with your skill set. Also, you can try applying for your own money:
- Canadian (and Canadian Permanent Resident) PhD-holders (or those soon to be qualified) are encouraged to apply for NSERC PDFs.
- Industrial PDFs are another avenue worth pursuing. There is additional funding from RDC for these: http://www.researchnl.com/funding/industrial_fellowship.htm
- Those interested in going to the UK can consider applying for a Newton RS fellowship: http://royalsociety.org/Newton-International-Fellowships/
- The EU sometimes has calls for International Incoming Fellowships, and there are other opportunities through the EU too.
